In order to observe the Passover Feast, the Jewish priests and leaders pleaded with the Roman governor to take off Jesus’ body which was nailed onto the cross the day before the Sabbath, the day when Jewish people also would celebrate their annual Passover Feast, which was commanded by God to be observed because He delivered His people, the Israelites, out of slavery bondage in Egypt.
The Sabbath or the Passover Feast after Christ’s crucifixion perhaps was the most darkest day in human history because God’s Son was killed and not yet raised. The Jewish people observed that day and celebrated the Passover, but their hearts had turned away from their God. In Matthew 15:8 we read, “These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me; their worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.”
Let’s ask God to search our hearts whether we are satisfying our own desires or doing His will.
