Sacrificial love

One day Admetus fell ill, and being near death his friend Apollo was willing to help retain Admetus’ life provided that someone would consent to die in his stead.  First of all, he asked his warriors and servants to be a substitute of death, but they would rather fight or serve until die than take his place in the world of the dead.  Then Admetus asked his parents,  who were old and devoted to him, to die for him, but they refused to do so.   One after another Alcetus went to his friends begging them to die and let him live.  Nonetheless what he met was a series of refusal.  Disappointed and distressed he went back home and there he found a substitute.  His wife Alcestis offered to die for him.

If you were Admetus, who would you ask to die for you? Would that person be willing to take your place? Or if you were Alcestis, would you be willing to die for your loved one?  We know perhaps one would die for a good person, but he or she would barely die for an evil or wicked person.  Only Christ while wewere still sinners died for us, then we’ll have the eternal life in him.
