Entertain strangers

In my Myth class this morning, one of my students reported on the story of Baucis and Philemon which reminds me of how as a believer should show hospitality and kindness to strangers.  The Bible says, ” Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing so some have entertained angels without being aware of it” (Hebrews 13:2).

The story of Baucis and Philemon goes like this:

Baucis and Philemon, an old and pious couple, lived in a small village where one day Jupiter and Mercury disguised as wayfarers paid a visit and checked on the people whether they were generous or selfish.  Unlike the townspeople turning them away, Baucis and Philemon offered the divine visitors hospitality.  As a reward Baucis and Philemon were spared when a food swept the village.  Their cottagewas turned into a temple and of course they became priest and priestess of it.

Are we willing to serve God? Serve Him by serving strangers heartily and generously.
